Lateral Slit Technique In Turkey

Here at Este Future, We are the pioneers of using Lateral Slit technique which one of the most revolutionary and important techniques in hair transplant surgeries in Turkey and around the world, it was and still is a breakthrough in the history of Hair Transplant Surgery as it provides a natural look and mimic the look that every patient want and need, other than that this technique minimize the scarring and maximize the coverage giving the patient the most natural results.

The Lateral Slit Technique that we use in Este Future here, is considered as a special surgical style make it safe to iterate the allocation and the range of the hair grafts just the way it is in the natural status. Using this Style allow us to totally get rid of the unwanted results that we used to have using the old methods, In the same time this style maximize the range. One of the things that makes this style so important is the ability to control the angularity and the direction of the growth. Before using this style we had some places that was really hard to transplant hair in it like the sideboards, but now it’s not a problem anymore.

The Development of The Lateral Slit Technique

The follicular units appear to be lined up alongside one another vertically in the way of hair growth in the donor areal, the Lateral slit technique imitate that natural look and copy it to the receiving area which gives the patient the most natural look possible and make the Difference between the donor area and the receiving area barely visible. Not like other methods the incisions made sagittally correlate with the direction of hair growth.

Este Future - Hair Growth

The Development of follicular unit hair transplant in Turkey has proven its worth of being evolutionary and everyone in the industry consider it an important step forward in achieving the natural look. Our Doctors at Este Future always felt that once the  FUT technique had been developed enough there won’t be any other development to give a better result in hair transplantation. But what they didn’t give enough attention to was the order and arrangement of the follicles inside every follicular unit and the trend of the follicular unit on the scalp. Lateral Slit Technique made everyone change their opinions about that.

To understand more this concept we need to take a long and specified look at the way the hair grows and the way it’s arranged in nature, it’s not in any way random actually it’s the opposite as there are patterns and lines and those things decide the direction and the angel of hair growth that’s why we recognize that here at Este Future and consider it very important.

This technique reinforces the scalp area which is covered by the follicles as dissenting to being arranged in random way or one follicle behind the other. In Practice, there are so much more to this technique and there are more advantages include controlling graft angulations relative to underlying scalp tissue and precise control.

Lateral Slit Technique At Este Future

Este Future - Lateral Incisions

Lateral Incisions

The incisions made by The Lateral Slit Technique at Este Future are more superficial than other incisions. Therefore, it would reduce the trauma to the important blood vessels deeper in the scalp. When grafts are placed in the recipient sites in the sagittal way that we mentioned before which makes the overwork pressure by the neighboring follicular accumulative. This progressive pressure inside the scalp limits the number of follicular units that can be placed in the bald area without risking any pressure or pooping. When the grafts are placed in profiling slits to pressure the outer surface of the scalp and the adjoining follicular units.

In contrast to other techniques, The Lateral Slit Technique also grants less trauma to the recipient area due to the use of modified and customized cut surgical blades. These blades can range from 0.6 mm to 1.2mm in width and they are cut in our hospitals to match the width and depth of your follicular unit graft.

The Doctors at here at Este Future, work closely with our trichologists to mark the width and depth of these grafts. For sure, to reduce the amount of any unwanted trauma to the area around the scalp vasculature, we use customized cutting blades.

Measures are different in each area of the scalp but in general is downward on the sides and the back, transition zones will be in between on the frontal zone.

Controlling the angel is very specific and accurate with the Lateral Slit Technique. That of course of a very importance in transplanting the interim area and whiskers where the angel of the hair is very sharp.
It’s worth the note that the density levels can be lower using the Lateral Slit Technique but that won’t affect the natural resultThis is very important in case we have limited donor reserves or wish to transplant a large area.

In general we always need to simulate the natural hair in every specific detail, the growth, that’s why we used this technique to copy the natural look and have the best results.

The perfect site is small, allowing for:

  • A convenient fit of the graft
  • Swift and quick healing
  • Minimal harm to the scalp vasculature.
  • Closely Opposed sites for maximum density

In addition to that, the shape of the wound should imitative the graft shape and directed in such way as to allow for optimum hair coverage and hair directional flow.

Most hair grafts that we transplant using the lateral slit technique formed of 2 hairs. But in general any follicular unit that has more, we here at Este Future usually arrange it in a parallel fashion. This way the hair graft would probably grow in a rectangular way.

The diameter of the terminal hair shaft usually ranges from 60-85 microns but it extends to 3.5mm – 5.0mm deep into the fats under the skin. The depth of wound can be measured and fixed to equalize the length of the patient’s follicles.

Wounds or incisions with limited depth are critical to avoid damage to the sub-dermal vascular plexus especially when a large amount of grafts are placed near each other’s.  The width of course should be minimal to avoid any damages to the graft.

Getting the Best Results

For every single hair graft the wound width which our doctors feel ideal is between 0.5mm – 0.7mm or roughly 10 times the hair axis diameter. For multiple hair grafts the size differs between 0.90mm and 1.10mm depending on the diameter. This technique grant packing between 30 and 85 follicular units for every square cm.

In General, The orientation of the Hair Grafts takes the angularity of the hair. Replicating this orientation improves hair coverage and naturalness. To do that we have to make slits in the corner part of the scalp and not in a sagittal direction. Doing it would reduce the damage to sub-dermal vascular plexus, which is very important in large dense pack surgeries. In practice there is no evidence of scarring as a consequence of transecting the Langer’s lines. This has been documented in many clinical cases. There is in fact less incidence of wound contraction, which causes bunching of the follicles as they exit the skin.

In General the angel of the follicular unit tend to go the same way of the hair direction. This raise the degree of Hair Shining. To get an improved results we cut the recipient area in a coronal direction which is far better than the usual sagittal direction.

Important aspects that affect hair transplantation.

  • Hairline design

Hairline Design - Este Future

Surgeons all around the world and specially ours in Turkey agree on the importance of the hairline design, in a way it’s more of an artistic skill, therefore we shouldn’t have 2 hairlines the same as each other’s, because every face has its own design and dimensions and the hairline should be the same. That’s why here at Este Future, our surgeons always try their best to design and draw the best hairline for our patients.

  • Extracting and using of follicular units

We can find Follicular units in the donor part of the scalp, but to extract those units  and use them to transplant new hair grafts in the recipient area we need well trained  trichologist with enough experiences to work with the units in a careful manner. That’s why at Este Future, we are always trying to boost our team with the best surgeons, nurses and trichologist as well.

  • Transplanting the follicular units.

In dealing with the Follicular units, we have to be careful especially after extracting the units. As it should be kept in an appropriate environment to be used later and transplanted in the bald area. After extraction we have to open channels in the recipient area. Here at Este Future, we try our best to minimize the spaces between the channels so we can implant the maximum number of grafts and get the best and most natural results. After that the distribution of the grafts should follow the natural variations of the hair look as well as the density in every part of the scalp.
